A workshop, a notebook, and a stubborn belief that good homes are built.
Hands & Hearth started in a one-car garage with a borrowed miter saw, a stack of salvaged pine, and a list of things that needed fixing in the house we'd just bought. The first project was a wobbly bookshelf. The second was a garden bed. The third was a kitchen faucet at 11 p.m. on a Sunday.
What we learned in that first year is what this site is built on: most home projects aren't actually that hard. They're just unfamiliar, and unfamiliar things feel expensive when you hire them out. With the right steps, the right tools, and an honest idea of your limits, you can do most of them yourself.
We write every guide like we're talking to a friend who has never touched a circular saw but wants to. We won't pretend something is easy when it isn't, and we'll always tell you when to call a pro.
What we believe
We test every project ourselves. If a method doesn't work, we say so.
We recommend tools we use, not tools we're paid to recommend.
Some work is for pros. Knowing which is part of being a good homeowner.
